By My Fury They Shall Know Thy Emperor's Name

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.

6 Questions; Starring Sythia Brutis
In TV Interview Format

Host : Sythia, thank you so much for joining us today. Our viewing audience is dying to know more about you.
Sythia : They seem to be quite alive to me… for now at least
Host : Oh, okay… um, they just want to know more about you.. so… let’s begin… Maybe?
Sythia : Fine, lets get this over with.
Host : First Question Sythia, Why are you traveling to Copius IV?
Sythia : Copius IV might be a beautiful planet, mainly covered in farms and fields, but don’t be deceived. There is always a villain, ruffian, tyrant, murderer, rapist or the like. You just need to know where to look. I am here to oust them and make them pay and preferably get paid in the process.
Host : Seems, a little dark Sythia, aren’t you going to take a little “me” time and relax at our new pleasure resort?
Sythia : The only pleasure I need comes in the form of justice, swift, cold, and calculated.
Host : * blink blink*
Sythia : …. What’s the next fucking question!
Host : Oh, sorry… you seem really tough. But just how tough? if you were suddenly held at gunpoint by a couple gangers who demand your money or life, how would you feel/react?
Sythia : I would feel nothing.. . fear doesn’t grip me, it only frees my mind and gives me a higher sense of things, and by the end their teeth would be chattering in fear against the barrel of their own gun weather I am holding or they are holding it in their own mouth…….
Host : ….. * jaw drops* ….. tha, that’s great Sythia. Do I dare ask you what your greatest desire in life is?…
Sythia : Sure, that’s easy… to clean that gangers grey matter off my armor and know that’s one less dead beat low life scum that this world needs to endure.
Host : Sweet Emperor! You have to be kidding, are you even a real person!? Let me guess, you would be willing to sacrifice anything to bring justice to this simple ganger then?
Sythia : No, not for a simple ganger. But to bring down a greater evil, evil incomprehensible to the civilized mind, evil that creeps in the shadows and with a single word steals the last breath from a babe in its crib, to stop that evil I would give everything.
Host : … so would you say the thing you hate the most in this world is evil? Kinda generic don’t you thing?
Sythia : Evil can come in many forms, it is never generic, unlike this talk show… but all those forms can cause suffering. In fact this interview has been a waste of my time * Sythia stands up as if to leave the set*
Host : Then why did you waste your afternoon to come on set Sythia? You knew what this was all about!
Sythia : * quickly draws a pistol and fires in the direction of the camera, a blood curdling scream is heard and blood sprays across the camera lens. Sythia approaches the camera grabs it and turns it to the camera man, now bleeding out on the floor*
Host : What in the emperor’s name are you doing!
Sythia : This man is Janis Thule, wanted for the corruption, enslavement and murder of 45 citizens of the town Tarkus on the moon Carlatia. He is the worst kind of scum and doesn’t even deserve a swift death. Now watch him try to cling at his life strings, strings that he saw fit to cut from a mother while he made her two young children watch. Watch and see what becomes of evil

*END BROADCAST *

Oddly Intrusive Immigration Questions
Papers Please / Farmers Only

Q1: Why are you traveling to Copius IV?

A: Pleasure. Psychiatrist recommended R&R to be specific.

Q2: If you were held at gunpoint, how would you respond?

A: I have been held at gunpoint many times. Usually I just laugh. Once I get a good look in their eyes (and they get a good look at mine), they find someone else to rob.

Q3: What is your desire in life?

A: I desire nothing more than to serve our Emperor. In doing so, I shall ensure my continued safety. Through service, I will never want for anything.

Q4: Would you sacrifice to achieve the above question?

A: I live every day on the edge of death. This has been my life ever since surviving in the space hulk HMS Lucullus as a child. There is nothing I am afraid to lose.

Q5: What do you hate?

A: I hate small talk and other needless conversation. Most people say I am crazy. But my psychiatrist assures me that I am fit to serve the Emperor.

Q6: I always travel with my dead mother’s Cypra Mundi pistol and Selenite Void Suit for interplanetary trips and xeno mesh armor and mesh cowl for any planetside excursions. I always wear a black cloak over everything. Always.

The difference between heresy and treachery is ignorance.

Metalus was on his way to Copius IV unfortunately not for pleasure, but instead it was business related. His ability with cryptology is not just limited to breaking codes, but also creating them. So he was “requested” to come help some government facility develop new coding for their messaging system. As long as the ride is nice, Metalus won’t mind much. He was set up with a “luxury liner,” so the seats were going to be comfy enough. While waiting to board he was able to catch a few Z’s at the terminal, where he dreamt of his past……..

There he was, investigating a crime scene previously looked over. Just doing some double checking of things, dotting the i’s and crossing those t’s. He heard the crunching of debris under foot behind him, but one of the entrances….turning to look he saw two ratty scum who’ve obviously come to ransack the place. Nervous twitching, fogging of the eyes, drug overdose? No. Withdrawal. One had already drawn a shoddy looking pistol and had it leveled towards Metalus. Local street made gun, many confiscated so far. Average of 83% have malfunctions, 36% of which are injuries to the user, yet they continue to be used.

“Give us all your money!” Simple demands, simple minds.

Metalus slowly raised his arms up. These lessers might normally not be a threat, but they seemed jumpy and didn’t them being even more stupid than they’ve already been. “I have a better idea.” He said in a calm voice. The one without a gun looks nervous, no confidence without a weapon.

“I’m the one calling the shots, wise guy! Like I said, money. Now!” The one with the gun kept demanding, the barrel swaying side to side. Can’t track his target…hyperopic mixed with withdrawals.

“Somna. That’s what you guys are using, yes? Well…it just so happens I have some in my-”

GIVE IT ’ER!” Opportunity….. Metalus slowly reaches into his pocket and brings out some vials with liquid in them. The crooks eyes instantly become fixated on the new prize, their bodies craving what they think is their next fix.

“Catch.” He says almost casually, like he’s doing them a favor, and tosses the vials towards the two. They scramble for it immediately. Now. They didn’t notice Metalus drawing his Hecuter autopistol and leveling it at them, switching it to auto, and quite methodically chewing them in half. The one with the gun had a spasm, pulling the trigger of his pistol in the process. It backfired and now the mans hand looked like raw hamburger, not like he was alive to experience the pain at this point though. Metalus walked over and picked up his vials, which were just fill with water runoff he had gathered for analysis, holstered his pistol, and went back to work after calling for some Arbites backup in this shitty, Emperor forsaken neighborhood.

Someone sat in the seat next to Metalus, jostling him awake for a moment, but he quickly drifted make asleep.

“How could you mess this up?” He paused his accusation for a moment “FOR THE THIRD TIME THIS WEEK!” Metalus had enough of some of his so called peers. He just desired to have a bit of order in the work place. Everything had its spot, all forms had certain ways to be filled out, everything worked well when people here used their brain just a smidge. “Never mind, just leave it. NO….no no……leave it. I’ll fix your mistakes. Again.” He hated wasted talent. These other adepts were here for a reason, but some were just stealing air more than anything. But Metalus was happy with doing his work for the Verispex; it presented him with new challenges all the time. Some harder than others, and he preferred the more difficult ones. He believed what he did was what solved the crimes, the Arbites were just the sword to dole out justice. A fine working machine that’s operated for centuries. He organized a few more documents and paired them with the appropriate evidence for filing and further research. Knowledge is power, guard it well. That is what his primary instructor had told him over and over once he joined the Verispex. And how true that turned out to be!

Metalus had stumbled upon some texts, in ways that don’t need to be discussed at the moment…lets just say he found them. Forbidden knowledge is considered that for a reason. Nobody is supposed to know it, and it can be considered heretical if you do. But…what if you can use it for good? Like, say….information on cults and their practices? Being able to recognize their symbols and common words or phrases used by their members? Could this not help fight them? Metalus thought so. Which is why after reading the books cover to cover many times he finally destroyed it, but remembering every last detail. If I found one of my colleagues with something like that I’d have turned them in, or killed them on the spot. I expect the same would have been done to me. But now nobody knew but him, and he could filter out what he needed to help in cases later down the road.

Another jostle and this time it was someone giving his boots a kick on purpose “Hey there sir. Are you waiting to board this cruiser? They’ll be starting soon.” Metalus smiled and nodded at the gentleman, who gave his own knowing nod back and went on his way. He gave a few stretches, getting any kinks out, and accounted for his belongings. Extra pair of clothes? Check. Identification? Check. Service pistol and ammo? Check. Chrono? Check. Data slate? Check. The rest of his gear had been loaded onto shipping containers which then were loaded into the belly of the main vessel. He’ll have to claim it at a later time if the dock hands don’t lose it, that is. He had requested from his previous stationing a Vox-Thief, Auspex and Ocular Catechizer. He may have tossed in some forms to try and get a Verispex armor set, but knowing his precinct, they weren’t likely to part with it. He’ll find out what all they allowed to be shipped once he gets to his destination.

A female voice well she sounds nice…, someone working the terminal, came over a vox hailer. It gave that knowing feedback tone first, which made the hustle and bustle of everyone stop and listen. “For those of you boarding for Copius IV, the gate is now open and we are accepting. Please enjoy your flight, and as always…..the Emperor protects.” Yes…as always.

Initiation

After boarding a vessel to Copius IV, the group awakens from cryo-sleep to find themselves as the only survivors on the ship. It has reached its destination but not before being deemed Terminatus by the PDF orbital check point. The group members help each other out of their cryo-pods and head toward the bridge. Avelina senses ruptures in the warp all over the vessel before being contacted by the ship’s astropath. Arriving at the bridge, Gaius begins to work on the main cogitators while the rest of the party open the hatch to the astropath’s psi-pod. They are informed of their imminent doom in the form of PDF bombardment due to a daemonic presence within the ship. The group is asked to go to the armory and find anything they can that will help keep the daemon from escaping during bombardment. In the name of the Emperor, and for the safety of the imperium, they accept their fatal mission. The astropath is then consumed by the forces of chaos and his body is eviscerated from inside out by lashing tendrils of razor wire. All but Gaius head to the armory to retrieve their gear. Gaius communes with the ship’s machine spirit and discovers that the escape pods have been force-activated. He arrives there first and attempts to stop the pod from deploying with no luck. As the alert for destruction sounds, the group load into the pods and give chase toward the surface of Copius IV. Gaius’s pod has trouble during re-entry and crashes hard. Now in the middle of a farm field, the group follows the trail of the escaped entity to the farm house near by. inside, they find a grizzly mess of the occupants. A man is sitting in the center of a ward, hastily drawn on the floor with the blood of the poor dead farmers. Sythia, recognizing the man for what he really is, does not hesitate to heroically charge the man and tackle him. This forces the man to break his grip on the possession and the daemon within is released. Instantly mummified in thin wire, the daemon known as Corpus Filimentum defends itself from the attackers. While still weak, the Daemon-host uses its terrifying psi-shreak to stun the party so it may escape. However, Bruul resists the awful pain and goes on the attack. Bruul swings hard with his sword, only to find that the daemon’s body was far too durable. This causes the Daemon to lash out and shred Bruul’s body, rending his flesh and nearly* spilling his entrails before it escapes. The party awakens in a church within the small farming town. Journeyman-Confessor Anton greets them and asks them to hunt the daemon-host down and kill it before the PDF get involved. To do this, the team must use his hacked-shotgun with special sanctified shells to knock the beast down. only then can they perform the final blow to kill the host and banish the daemon. With out any other resources, the team reluctantly agrees and heads out of the church. They are then approached by Priest Hobbs who explains to them that the host of this daemon is inquisitor Sten Locheed and he holds important information. Hobbs requests that the team use a Psi-lock collar on Sten once he is subdued, instead of killing him. Sythia refuses outright, while Matelus agrees to at least take the collar and consider the options. With Bruul’s wounds burdening his action, Matelus agrees to use the hacked-shotgun once the daemon-host is located. Avelina, Sythia, and Matelus combine their skills to track down the daemon-host that is lurking somewhere in town. They notice the town is empty, as it is mid day and the residence are mostly out working the fields. eventually, a group of farmers enter the road from a house two blocks away. They seem puppet-like as their blood soaked bodies walk about. Wire tethers come out of their spines and collect somewhere within the house they emerged from. The group charges down the street at the puppet-farmers. Matelus ducks into a side street to circle around the back of the house. Avelina’s psychic power erupts and causes a chaotic rain of blood in the street. The team clashes with the puppet-farmers as Matelus sneaks into the back of the house. Here, he finds another puppet waiting for him. Matelus wittingly slips past the clumsy guard and fires the shot at the Corpus Filimentum. Their only hope misses its target and the group now has to turn to more desperate measures. Another rupture in the warp causes a psychic backlash that sends mental energy surging through everyone’s brain and body. Bruul sucumbs to the blast and is partially immolated*. Sythia valiantly picks up his sword and charges into the house to attack the daemon-host. Corpus Filimentum reacts by whipping its wire tendrils at the party members and ripping a wide hole in the warp. By fate, a furious new daemon emerges and engages the Corpus Filimentum in a feral battle of dominance. Meanwhile, Avelina see’s Gaius being surrounded by the puppets and hears the terrible fight raging within the house. She decides to use the fire still sputtering on Bruul’s form to send the house up in flames. another rip in the warp causes gravity to reverse and Sythia and Metalus use this opportunity to escape the embattled and burning house. The house begins to come apart as gravity and flame wrench on it. suddenly, the daemon-host comes bursting forth just as the gravity normalizes. this causes the burning building to collapse upon the daemon and pin it to the ground. Sythia and Avelina take this opportunity to execute the host and banish the daemon for good. Bloody and broken, the group returns to the church with the news of Inquisitor Sten’s death. Priest Hobbs erupts in anger and leaves while Anton reveals that he too is an inquisitor and commends their bravery. Anton believes that this is a sign from the God-Emperor himself, telling them that they are to be of great service by joining the inquisition as acolytes of the Throne. The team each agree to join the cause and earn a divine blessing. Bruul’s heroic sacrifices are further rewarded with cybernetic replacements.
